COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need a doctor’s referral for a work injury claim?
Yes. You must first see a General Practitioner (GP) to obtain a Work Capacity Certificate, which officially refers you to physiotherapy under your ReturnToWorkSA claim.
Who pays for my physiotherapy?
Once your employer’s insurance company approves your claim, they will cover the cost of your physiotherapy. We bill the insurer directly.
Can you provide a medical certificate for time off work?
Physiotherapists can provide attendance certificates, but official "Work Capacity Certificates" (which dictate if you need time off or light duties) must be issued by your GP. We will write a detailed report to your GP with our recommendations.
What if I can only do light duties?
We highly encourage a gradual return to work. We will communicate with your employer to suggest appropriate "light or modified duties" that you can safely perform while you continue your rehabilitation.
Can I choose my own physiotherapist for a work injury?
Yes. Under ReturnToWorkSA guidelines, you have the absolute right to choose your own treating physiotherapist, even if your employer or their medical officer suggests someone else.
What happens if my employer doesn't have "light duties" available?
If appropriate light duties are unavailable at your workplace, your GP will likely sign you off work completely until you are physically capable of returning to your normal duties safely.
