COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is physiotherapy safe during the first trimester?
Yes, physiotherapy is safe at all stages of pregnancy. We modify our techniques, positioning (such as avoiding lying flat on your back later in pregnancy), and exercises to ensure the utmost safety for you and your baby.
When should I see a physio after giving birth?
We recommend a postnatal assessment around 6 weeks after delivery, once you have been cleared by your GP or obstetrician. However, if you are experiencing severe pain, mastitis, or incontinence, you can see us sooner.
Do you perform internal pelvic floor examinations?
Depending on your symptoms (like severe incontinence or prolapse), an internal exam may be recommended for the most accurate assessment. However, this is always optional, fully explained, and only performed with your explicit consent.
Can you help if I had a C-Section?
Absolutely. C-section recovery requires careful management of the scar tissue and specific protocols to safely re-engage the abdominal muscles without causing hernias.
Can physiotherapy help with pelvic organ prolapse?
Yes. A customized pelvic floor strengthening program is the first-line treatment for managing mild to moderate pelvic organ prolapse and preventing it from worsening over time.
Is it normal to leak urine after having a baby?
While it is very common, it is not something you just have to live with. Postnatal physiotherapy can effectively strengthen the pelvic floor and stop stress incontinence.
