Sometimes, pain doesn't just sit in one muscle—it feels like a tight, restrictive web spreading across your entire back, neck, or legs. This is often caused by tightness in your fascia, the connective tissue that wraps around every muscle and organ in your body. When fascia becomes stiff from trauma, poor posture, or stress, it creates crushing pressure on nerves and muscles. At Paragon Physiotherapy Centre, our Myofascial Release therapy gently untangles this web, restoring your freedom of movement.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR TREATMENT

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a specialized, hands-on soft tissue therapy. Unlike a traditional massage that focuses on rubbing the muscles, MFR focuses on the fascia. The physiotherapist applies slow, sustained, and deep pressure into the restricted connective tissue. This prolonged pressure allows the fascia to elongate, soften, and release its grip on the underlying muscles and nerves, resulting in profound pain relief.

What to Expect During Your Session

01

Visual Assessment

We observe your posture and movement to identify where the "fascial pulls" are originating (which is often different from where you feel the pain).

02

Sustained Pressure

The physiotherapist will apply firm, slow pressure to the skin without using massage oils. They will hold this pressure for several minutes until they feel the tissue "melt" and release.

03

Hydration Advice

Fascia requires water to remain flexible. We will provide guidance on hydration and specific fascial stretching exercises.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is this different from a deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage uses rhythmic strokes and oils to target muscle fibers. Myofascial release uses no oil and involves holding slow, sustained pressure (often for 3-5 minutes per spot) to stretch the connective tissue web that surrounds the muscle.
Does myofascial release hurt?
It can be intense, often described as a "good hurt" or a deep stretching sensation. Because the pressure is slow and sustained, it is generally much more tolerable and relaxing than aggressive deep tissue massage.
Why do you treat an area that doesn't hurt?
Fascia is a continuous web. A restriction in your hip fascia can pull all the way up and cause pain in your shoulder. We treat the source of the restriction, not just the symptom.
How will I feel afterwards?
Most patients feel instantly lighter, more upright, and significantly more flexible. You may experience mild soreness the next day, which is normal as your body adjusts to its new alignment.
Will myofascial release help with my tension headaches?
Yes. Tension headaches are frequently caused by tight fascial bands pulling from your shoulders and neck up into your scalp. Releasing this connective tissue provides significant headache relief.
Do I need to drink extra water after this treatment?
Yes. Fascia needs to be well-hydrated to stay pliable. Drinking plenty of water after your session helps flush out released toxins and keeps the connective tissue flexible.
