UNDERSTANDING YOUR TREATMENT

What is Taping?

Taping is a clinical method used by physiotherapists to support joints, reduce pain, and improve muscle function. We utilize both rigid strapping tape for strong structural joint stabilization and flexible kinesiology tape (K-tape) to lift the skin, reduce localized swelling, promote blood flow, and support dynamic movement without restricting your natural range of motion.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does taping restrict my movement?
It depends on the type of tape used. Rigid strapping tape is designed to restrict harmful joint movements (like preventing an ankle roll). Kinesiology tape, however, is highly elastic and supports your muscles while allowing full movement.
How long can I wear the tape?
Typically, taping can be left on for 3 to 5 days. K-tape is designed to last longer and withstand sweat, while rigid tape is usually worn for specific sporting events or short-term support.
Can I shower with the tape on?
Yes! Kinesiology tape is water-resistant. You can shower with it, but avoid scrubbing the area and gently pat the tape dry with a towel afterward.
Does taping replace my rehab exercises?
No. Taping is a supportive tool designed to reduce pain and protect you while you perform your prescribed physiotherapy exercises to build long-term strength.
Will the tape irritate my skin?
We use high-quality, hypoallergenic tape. However, if you have sensitive skin or a known allergy to adhesives, please inform us so we can use a protective under-wrap.
Can I play sports immediately after being taped?
Yes. Taping is specifically designed to provide immediate joint stability and muscle support, allowing you to safely participate in sports and physical activities right away.
Is kinesiology tape different from regular sports tape?
Yes. Regular sports tape (rigid tape) restricts movement to protect a vulnerable joint, while kinesiology tape is highly elastic. It stretches with your body to support muscles and improve blood flow without limiting your mobility.
